Frequently asked questions
Are my flashcards saved between sessions?
Cards are stored in memory for this browser session only. If you reload the page they will be lost. For now, note down your cards. A future version will add localStorage persistence.
How many cards should I add per study session?
Research suggests 20–50 cards per active recall session is optimal. More than that leads to diminishing returns due to mental fatigue. Create focused decks by topic rather than one giant deck.
What is active recall and why does it work?
Active recall (retrieval practice) is the act of trying to remember information without looking at it. Studies show it strengthens memory 2–3x more effectively than re-reading. Flashcards force active recall by hiding the answer until you try to remember it.
Should I use spaced repetition?
Yes — study cards you got wrong more frequently, and cards you know well less often. This is called spaced repetition. For a full spaced repetition system, consider Anki (free desktop/mobile app). This tool is for quick, simple study sessions.
What subjects work best with flashcards?
Flashcards excel for vocabulary (any language), definitions, formulas, dates, periodic table elements, and any fact-based content. They are less useful for conceptual understanding, essay skills, or procedural problem-solving — those need different practice methods.
