Frequently asked questions
Why does this miss some of my spelling errors?
This tool only checks against a fixed list of ~200 commonly misspelled words. It does not have a full English dictionary. If your misspelling is not in the list, it will not be caught. For comprehensive spell checking, use a word processor like MS Word, Google Docs, or Grammarly.
Is my text stored or sent anywhere?
No. All processing happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never transmitted to any server. This tool works completely offline after the page loads.
Why are some correctly spelled words being flagged?
The checker does simple word-by-word matching and does not understand context. Proper nouns, technical terms, or abbreviations may incorrectly match misspelling patterns. Use your judgment for flagged words.
What are the most commonly misspelled words?
The most frequently misspelled English words include: accommodate, occurrence, separate, definitely, embarrass, necessary, receive, acknowledge, believe, and beginning. These appear in our dictionary and many more.
How can I improve my spelling long-term?
Practice active reading, keep a personal list of words you frequently misspell, use mnemonics (e.g., "I before E except after C"), and write regularly. Flashcards (see our Flashcard Maker) are excellent for memorising correct spellings.
