Frequently asked questions
How accurate are these calorie counts?
The values are based on standard nutritional data per 100g of raw/uncooked ingredients. Actual calories can vary by 10–20% depending on brand, ripeness, and cooking method. For clinical purposes use a certified food database.
Does cooking change the calorie count?
Cooking does not create or destroy calories, but it affects weight. Rice and dal absorb water and get heavier when cooked, so 100g cooked rice has fewer calories than 100g raw rice. This calculator uses cooked weights where marked.
How do I count calories for oil used in cooking?
Add the oil as an ingredient — 1 tablespoon of oil is about 14g, so enter 14g for each tablespoon. At 900 cal/100g, 1 tbsp adds about 126 calories to the dish.
What is a healthy calorie count per meal?
For an average adult, a main meal should have roughly 500–700 calories. A full day is typically 1,800–2,200 calories for women and 2,000–2,500 for men, varying by activity level.
Can I save my recipes?
