Frequently asked questions

How does the split work for shared items?

When an item is checked for multiple people, the cost is divided equally among those checked. For example, ₹300 of vegetables shared by 3 people = ₹100 each.

What if some items are only for one person?

Check only that person for that item. The full cost goes to them. This handles situations where one flatmate buys special ingredients only they use.

Can I split based on unequal ratios?

The current tool splits equally among checked members. For ratio-based splits (like 60/40) use the item cost field — enter ₹180 for person A and ₹120 for person B on separate rows for a 60/40 split of ₹300.

How should I track weekly spends against a monthly budget?

Use the Monthly Budget Tracker. Add your monthly target, then update the "spent so far" each week. The progress bar shows how much of the budget you've used.

Is there a good monthly grocery budget for a family of 4 in India?

For a family of 4 in a metro city, ₹6,000–₹12,000/month is a common range depending on dietary preferences. Vegetarian households generally spend 30–40% less on groceries than non-vegetarian households.
